Lloyd Eugene
Minor
Jun 1, 1942 — Nov 7, 2021
Clinton
Lloyd Eugene Minor, affectionately called "Turtle", "Gene" and "Touche" peacefully entered into eternal rest at his residence on Sunday, November 7, 2021. He was born in Milford, Virginia on June 1, 1942. He was guided and nurtured by his loving parents, the late Frank and Elfletta Minor. He was also preceded in death by two brothers James Elmon Minor and Franklin Lloyd Minor, Jr.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age at St. John Baptist Church, Milford, Virginia where he served in various youth activities. He was educated in Caroline County Public Schools and graduated from Union High School in 1960. His first love throughout his childhood was trucks. He spent time with his Pops (Daddy Frank) on trips and worked at Blanton Trucking Company servicing, washing and preparing for truckers to have a safe trip on their work assignments. He was an outstanding student at Union Elementary and Union High School often hanging out with his two buddies, Kenny Ragland and Scott Woolfolk. He was a model child, always being the companion for mom and talking truck talk with Pops. He enjoyed more than anything was being near his homeplace in Caroline County, VA talking for hours with family and friends. There was never enough time for Turtle to chat. Usually he was one of the last to leave a gathering.
After graduation from High School, he joined the US Navy for a four year term. He and his friend, Kenny Ragland volunteered for service under "The Buddy System". This was the highlight of his life to serve his country. On his first day reporting to duty he was hit with the surprise of his life, he would not be entering the Navy on the Buddy System as he expected. He received his orders for training, US Naval Training Center, Waukegan Illinois. He was Discharged Honorably returning home to pursue his passion and start a new career in trucking. He worked at Blanton Trucking, H. B. Atkinson, Preston Trucking Company, Consolidated Freight, and his premier job, Giant Foods retiring after a long-term trucking career. Job well Done!!
He married Gloria Jean Smith of Washington D.C. on June 25, 1978 and they were married for 43 years. Gene was a people person, never met a stranger, remembered for his gentle smile, hearty laugh, sharing his life experiences at family gatherings. Gloria, Natalie and the Grandkids were the highlight of his life as well as the years of trucking
