By the Providential hand of God on Monday, December 12, 2022 at approximately 1:30 am Leroy Emerson Byrd heard the voice of God's Holy Angel's whisper
"Enter into thy rest my son."
Leroy, also known as Bobby to his family and friends was born on December 28, 1945, to the late Emerson and Frances Byrd in Essex County Virginia. Bobby graduated from Essex High School in 1964. He attended Virginia State College in Petersburg, VA for two years until being drafted into the United States Army.
Bobby spent nearly 20 years in Germany after graduating from basic training on January 28, 1968. This is where he met and married his first wife, Barbara A. Moll. To this union they were blessed with one son, Sascha Leroy Byrd. After she tragically died, Leroy moved back to the United States with his son to be with family and friends.
Later, Bobby met and married Joyce Carter in 2003. They often traveled and enjoyed life together. Bobby did many odd jobs during his retirement years. He helped any and everyone he could. He assisted the elderly in his community and often advocated for veterans. Bobby was a walking wealth of knowledge. He loved his family and treasured spending time with his friends every week over lunch.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson (Boots) and Frances Byrd, his first wife, Barbara "Ramona" Byrd, and his brother Charles Byrd. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 19 years Joyce Carter Byrd of Caroline County, VA.(step-daughter Tracy Carter, step-grandson Neil), his son Sascha (Arvielle) (granddaughter Zemina) Byrd, of Stafford, VA. Three sisters; Virginia (Aubrey) Brown, of Port Royal, VA, Ellen Byrd of Tappahannock, VA, Frances "Darlene" Smith of Tappahannock, VA, one brother, William (Alease) Byrd of Caret, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
A walk through viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday December, 29. 2022 at C.W.Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday December 30, 2022 at The Land of Promise Church, 5924 Smith Station Road, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22407, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery, at a later date.
Due to COVID-19 a face covering or mask will be required.
