Lawrence William Golden, of Bowling Green, Virginia, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest, Thursday, December 18, 2014. He was born January 11, 1927, to the late John and Ruth Golden in Caroline County.
Lawrence was educated in the Caroline County School System and graduated from the Union High School in 1945. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, 1946-1949. He retired from the FMC Plant in Fredericksburg, VA and Jones Chemicals in 1992. While working at Jones Chemicals Lawrence befriended several of the younger employees, serving as a mentor and role model. Including, Contee Shepherd, Dwayne Cobb, and others. They would still visit Lawrence on their return trips to Bowling Green.
Lawrence accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church where he was a faithful member and Trustee Emeritus. He also was an active member of the Male Chorus. Lawrence was honored to serve his church and attended until his health began to decline.
Lawrence was thoughtful and a generous man, always willing to help a friend in need. He was well respected by the community for his intelligence, many people sought him to review various documents and for his input regarding their business affairs. For many years he prepared income tax returns for neighbors, family, friends, and friends of friends near and far. In his spare time Lawrence enjoyed fishing and gardening, he planted a garden each season sharing his harvest with family and friends. One of Lawrence's favorite pastimes was socializing and entertaining family and friends on his back porch.
In addition to his parents, Lawrence is preceded in death by a son Troy D. Coghill, his siblings, sister, Lucy Baylor, brothers, John, Herbert, and Floyd Golden.
Lawrence is survived by a devoted son Michael Coghill of Fredericksburg, VA. Devoted nieces Mrs. Emily Baylor and Crystal Cary (Stacey) and family of Bowling Green VA. Nephews, Freddie Baylor, Garland and Victor Gordon, Rodney, Lavell, Daryl and Stacey Golden. One grandson Walker (LT) Childs. His Sister-in-Law, Mrs. Cynthia Golden, and Ms. Lucy Gordon. Specials cousins, sisters Eloise Frye and Pearl James of Caroline County, VA. A host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family is grateful for the special people who supported Lawrence and the family during his health decline: Carolyn Brooks, Mary Sue Upshur, Keisha Washington and Richard Minor.
A visitation will be held Noon – 8:00 PM, Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the CW Edwards Funeral Home 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, VA 22427, and one hour before the service on Monday.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 127 S. Main Street, Bowling Green, VA 22427.
Dr. Arnett. Rogiers, Pastor, Shiloh Baptist Church will be officiating, with Rev. Irving Woolfolk Jr., Pastor Ebenezer Baptist Church, Supply, VA delivering the celebration message. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
