Obituary

On Saturday, March 7, 2015, Lavinia Foster, departed this life at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center. She was born April 20, 1933, to the late William Henry and Bessie Pollard.

This union was blessed with five children; Lavinia was the fourth child. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Foster. four brothers, Albert, Purcell, Edward and William Pollard.

Sister Foster joined Providence Baptist Church at an early age. Her trust in God and unwavering faith helped her to share in many church ministries. Her melodious voice was a joy in the choir. She served in the Deaconess Ministry for many years. She was instrumental in assisting to obtain baptismal attire for the candidates for baptism. She had a special concern for the youth and would encourage them to "use their own brain" and not allow anyone to influence them in doing the wrong things.

Her culinary skills have been shared with family and community. Her rolls and rice pudding brought delight to any table they graced. However, there was no meat or vegetable that she could not fix and make it a specialty, Deaconess Foster and her late husband, George Foster, were avid gardeners and shared their harvest with family and friends. She retired from the Retreat Hospital Sterile Supply Unit after 24 years of dedicated service. In her retirement, she served as a CNA giving support to those she served.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Rev. Deloris Gwathmey of Caroline County, Virginia and Sandra Ellerbe of Richmond, Virignia; two sons-in-law, Ginter Gwathmey, Jr. and Anthony Ellerbe; two granddaughters, Talisha Hence (Dwayne) and Lakisha Foster; three grandsons, Ginter Gwathmey III (Jene), Anthony Jr. and Brian Ellerbe: three great grandchildren, Laila Aaliyah, Ginter Rashad and Jordan Dominick Gwathmey and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church, 4570 Dorrell Road, Aylett, Virginia 23009.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12 at Providence Baptist church with the Rev. Evans C. White, Jr. delivering the eulogy.
