Kirk Douglas Childs was born November 15, 1961 in Stafford, Virginia, to the late Chester Clem Childs, Sr. and the late Margaret Estelle Fortune Childs.  He entered eternal rest on November 20, 2020, at the Bon Secours Memorial Regional Hospital in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

Kirk received his education in the Stafford County Public Schools through the eleventh grade.  He joined Mount Olive Baptist Church at an early age.

However, a car accident left him incapacitated, and he was unable to finish school or return to church.  Even though the accident kept him from living a full life, he never gave up on life.  He was unable to do a lot of things but never complained about anything.  His smile was his profile for anyone who visited, especially for the Saint John Missionary Ministry, whom he had a special rapport with one of them.

Kirk loved people and dogs. He loved life, all types of music, family and friends. He worked at the Highway Travelers Restaurant Truck Stop on US 17 for a short time before his accident. Life was not easy for him, but he made the best of what he was given and gave it his all to the very end.

In addition to his parents, Kirk was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Carpenter, a nephew, Michael Patterson and a great nephew, Jayden B. Carpenter.

He leaves to cherish his memory:  six sisters, Minister Linda Hawthorne (Zolly), Darlene Boxley, his caregiver (Vivian) of Spotsylvania, Virginia, Janice Patterson of Louisiana, Gloria Childs, Tammy Brown (Kevin) of Stafford, Virginia, and Deborah Bumbrey (Jake) of Woodford, Virginia; two brothers, Chester C. Childs, Jr. (Alberta) of Kansas and Kent Childs (Peggy) of Hartwood, Virginia, two uncles, Floyd Fortune (Bernice) of Bowling Green, Virginia, Brent Childs (Anne) of Ruther Glen, Virginia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Glory to God for all the good things He gives us.  Kirk will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.  We have the memories in our heart.

A walk through viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday November 28, 2020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc.16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday November 29, 2020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

Interment will follow at the Childs Family Cemetery, Balty Road, Ladysmith, Virginia 22501
