Mr. Keith Grantley Herbert was born on September 1,1945 in St. Thomas, Barbados. He died on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the age of 73 in his located in Ruther Glen, Virginia.
As a child Keith loved to play cricket and was involved in many physical activities. As a young adult after high school he attended Hospitality School to learn how to be a bartender where he finished at the top of his class. He then received his first job as a bartender at St.Lawrence Hotel at the age of 21. He then moved on to his second job as a bartender at Coral Reef Hotel. While in Barbados he met the love of his life, Carmen.
They married June 26, 1971. In 1982, they migrated to the United States with their daughter, Sheron and Lisa; three years later Amanda was born to make their family complete. The family first resided in Brooklyn, New York then Silver Springs, Maryland and finally relocated to Ladysmith, Virginia where he spent the remainder of his years.
While in Silver Springs, Maryland, he started his career as a Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician. He worked in this career for 27 years at various companies and then retired from Fort Belvoir as an HVAC contractor employee in 2011.
Keith also had a thirst for knowledge. Through the years and to end, he continuously kept up with current events and could debate anyone on various topics from politics, sports, medicine, education and so much more. Even until his last days, he was joyful and full of life.
He leaves fond and cherished memories to his companion and wife of 48 years, Carmen Herbert; brothers, Steven Herbert, Gregory Herbert and Derek Herbert; sister, Beverly Thornhill; three daughters, Sheron Colbert, Lisa Herbert-Cato and Amanda Herbert; four grandchildren, Isaiah, Gabriel, Victoria and Jacob; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who loved and respected him.
He will truly be missed!
A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site), 525 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the above name church.
Interment will follow in Mount Lawn Cemetery, Woodford, Virginia. 22580
