Josephine B. Dickerson began her journey of life on August 23, 1917, in Steelton, Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph and Fannie Fleming. From this union of her parents, two children were born.

Josephine was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and graduated from Overbrook High School. She was baptized at St. John Baptist Church in Woodford, Virginia. She later attended the worship service at Centennial Village Chapel.

Josephine worked at a family restaurant in West Philadelphia. She was the first African American waitress employed by "Horn and Hardart Restaurant,"

Later in life Josephine met and married the late Howard Dickerson. From this union one son, Lynn Dickerson, was born.

On August 12, Josephine departed this life's journey. She will be truly missed and remembered by many.

Josephine leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Lynn Dickerson; her daughter-in-law, Nettie Dickerson; her granddaughter, Lynnette Edwards; five nieces, Saundra Fleming, Charmaine Lopes, Rosheeda Fleming, Helen Butcher and Elaine Fleming; two nephews, James and Michael Fleming and a host of cousins and friends. Josephine was preceded in death by her brother, James Fleming.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21, at the Wright Cemetery, Michael's Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.
