Obituary

Jon Alvin Johnson was a caring, mild-mannered man who touched the lives of those who knew him.  On Monday, December 8, 2025, just one day after his 65th birthday, he entered into eternal rest, surrounded by the promise of God's Grace and Mercy.  Born December 7, 1960, he was the youngest of six boys of the late Joseph and Lucille Johnson of Bowling Green, Virginia.  He spent his early childhood in Bowling Green, where he attended elementary school and the neighborhood church, Bethel Baptist.

A few years after his parents' death, Jon moved to Richmond to live with his brother James, wife Ellen and family.  He attended school in Henrico County and graduated from Highland Springs High School in 1978.

Jon joined the US Army and served on active duty as a Finance Specialist for twelve years.  He met and married his wife and best friend, Leslie Dunn, who was also in the Army.  They had two sons, John Michael of Neptune, New Jersey and Kristopher of Culpepper, Virginia.

Jon moved in with son Kristopher years later and became a live-in social director (grandparent "Poppy").  He loved spending time with his grandchildren, often taking and picking them up from school and other events.  Jon often boasts about how lucky he was to be able to spend time with them.

He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph M. and Sarah Lucille Johnson and one brother Lionel.  He is survived by two sons John Michael and Kristopher (Krystal); four brothers James (Nancy), Charles (Anna), Joseph (Fatema) and Bruce (Jameka); grandchildren: Leah, Kristopher Jr., Kamiah, Orieanna, Michael, Jazyme and Janiah; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Bethel Baptist Church 103 Ennis Street, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427, with Military Honors.
