The Lord saw that it was time for Johnny Ray Murray to go home, so he stopped by Bon Secour Regional Memorial Hospital in Mechanicsville, VA and Johnny peacefully transitioned to his eternal rest on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Johnny, affectionally known as "Big John, Butch, and Blue," was born on July 13, 1952, in Selma, Alabama, to the late Frank and Leola Murray. He relocated from Selma, Alabama to New Jersey, and later moved to Bowling Green, VA where he worked at United Masonary Company, Peedie Keene Company, and Caroline County Public Works until he retired.
Johnny was a people person who loved to talk and tell jokes. He would be on the phone for hours laughing and telling jokes to his friends and family. Johnny was famous for going to the different stores picking up whatnots and his favorite snacks.
Johnny was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Murray, Jr,; his parents; one sister, Christine Alston; three brothers: Robert Reynolds, George Murray, and King Murray.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved, caring, and devoted partner of 46 years, Margie Bundy; his "Ava Baby;" one brother, James Arthur Murray and his extended family; one sister, Jean Hill; three devoted nephews nephews: Jerry Morrison (Marlet), Harold Alston (Linda), and Lavon Foxx (Quintina); three devoted nieces: Patrice McNeil, Susie Morrison, and Breta Myers; Murrell Grant "Little Son;" and a host of other close family members and special friends that were dear to his heart and made his life worth living.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday April 19, 2026 at Caroline High School, 1955 Rogers Clark Blvd, Milford, Virginia 22514, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Wrightsville Road, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427
