On Monday, April 17, 2017 John Harry Childs departed this life and peacefully went home to eternal rest at his residence.
John Harry Childs was born January 6, 1925 in Caroline County to the late Annie L. Childs. He grew up in Bowling Green, Virginia and attended Caroline County Public Schools. Later in life he moved to Deland, Florida where he was employed for many years. He later returned back to Caroline County and was employed doing various jobs.
His sister Geneva Parker preceded him in death.
Harry as he was known to family and friends is survived by his wife, Susie Childs of Ruther Glen, Virginia; two daughters, Elsie McNeal of Temple Hills, Maryland and Valerie Davis (Roscoe) of Deltona, Florida; two sons, Albert Childs of McLean, Virginia and R. Leon Childs (Michele) of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren Nathaniel McNeal, III (Tasha) of Washington, D.C., Kareem Childs (Christina) of Athem, Arizona, Taniesha McNeal of Washington, D.C., Keith McNeal (Cynthia) of Fort Washington, Maryland, Latanya Lewis of Richmond, Virginia, Roscoe Davis, III and Raquia Davis, both of Deltona, Florida; sixteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great- grandchildren; one brother James Childs of Bowling Green, Virginia a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends among them a devoted caregiver, Jackie Monroe; Cynthia Golden and neighbor, Lee Yancey.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Beth'el Baptist Church, 103 Ennis Street, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery
