Jeanice G.
Washington
Aug 7, 1933 — Oct 13, 2024
Caroline County
Jeanice Garnett Washington was born on August 7, 1933, to the late Prince Albert and Eunice Harris Garnett. On October 10, 2024, she departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior.
Jeanice was born in Milford, Virginia, and raised and educated in Caroline County, Virginia, where she graduated from Union High School. At an early age she joined St. John Baptist Church, serving in several capacities -- Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, Girl Scout leader, and a member of the Flower Club.
On December 4, 1954, she was united in matrimony to Donald L. Washington, Sr. This union was blessed with four children. While her children were growing up, Jeanice was a motherly figure to other young people in the community as well. She treated them as her own and made sure that they were taken to church and Sunday school and baptized along with her own children. She loved reading the Bible and studying God's word, and especially enjoyed her Sunday school class.
Jeanice was employed with the Caroline County public school system as a teacher's aide, from which she retired in June 1998. After retiring, she spent time with her family, making frequent trips to Maryland where several of her family members eventually relocated. Jeanice was a compassionate and loving person, spending many hours at the Bowling Green Health & Rehabilitation Center, visiting the residents there, most of them people that she had grown up with. Over the years, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and gardening. Jeanice loved to make quilts for family members, especially for her grandchildren; and she loved spending time in her front yard, filling it with many tall and beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed spending time with other seniors at the community center and going on outings with them.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Washington, Sr., son, Donald L. Washington, Jr., daughter, Angela T. Covington and brothers, James Garnett and Ennis Garnett.
No matter what circumstances came her way, Jeanice always said that she had a good life, relying on her Heavenly Father to be her source of strength. She leaves to cherish her sweet memories, two children; Jeffrey Washington and Janice Washington Johnson (William); a sister, Agnes Addison; seven grandchildren; Michael Covington, Jessica Covington, Jibrant Washington, Jilisa Rieker, William Johnson, Jr., Jonathan Johnson, and Jillian Johnson; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Delores Garnett; special daughter Rosalind Abrams Reid; goddaughter Gwendolyn Fortune; Phyllis Wilson, who was like a daughter and took special care of her; and nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
