Janie Harris "Bunch" Turner Baylor, a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend departed this life on July 15, 2019 at the Carrington Place of Tappahannock in Tappahannock, Va. Janie was born on May 9, 1927 in Brandywine, Va to the late John and Florence Turner, the ninth of ten children. At an early age, she joined First Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sparta, Va and continued to be a faithful servant for the Lord until her health failed her. During her membership she served on the choir, kitchen committee, Sunday school, and mission board. She graduated from Union High School and soon thereafter moved to Philadelphia where she became a seamstress after studying at the Pennsylvania School of Tailoring. A few years later she moved to New York City, where she had the opportunity to sang at Carnegie Hall with the Ward Singers, one of her most proud accomplishments in the Big Apple. Janie was employed in Philadelphia at a candy factory and in New York City working in the garment district as a seamstress. She later worked at A.P. Hill as a Cook, serving our nation's military and had her first car and officially obtained her driver's license at the age of 50.

While in New York, she met her future husband, the late, Eugene Jack Baylor. Two twenty somethings who both hailed from Caroline County, just 20 miles apart, from Brandywine and Penola, met on one lovely evening at the Republic Club in Manhattan. They fell in love and on June 29, 1956 they were joined in holy matrimony. From this union, four children were born: June , Janice, Joyce, and Richard . Her hobbies included singing, gardening, playing croquet, canning, crocheting and tending to her vineyard. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Florence Turner, three sisters, Lottie, Josephine and Blanch, six brothers, Arthur, Atwood, George, Major, Hashmel and Hayse. She is survived by her loving daughters, June Baylor (Edward) of San Antonio, Tx, Janice Baylor, Bowling Green, VA, Joyce Adams (Steve) of Bowling Green, VA and a loving son Richard Baylor of Richmond, Va. One granddaughter, India (Antwon) and one grandson, Anthony and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins. And lifelong devoted friends, Margie B. Rogers of South Caroline and Eleanor Donnley of New York.

A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26,2019 at the C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc., 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27,2019 at the First Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 170650 Seals Road, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
