Obituary

James Otis Johnson "Spanky" was born in Richmond, VA on July 23, 1955, to the late Mozella Roye, in Sparta, Virginia.  Spanky joined Jerusalem Baptist Church at a very young age and loved the Lord in his own way.  On Thursday, March 21, 2024, our brother quietly entered into his eternal rest.

Spanky was educated in the Caroline County school system and was a self-taught truck driver for 52 over years. Spanky was a hard worker his entire life.  He was an experienced trucker that drove all kinds of trucks and started his career driving for the Broaddus family.  He was known as "Yellow Jacket "by his many trucker friends. Also, he got the opportunity to do both short and long-distance driving.

Spanky was a man of immense integrity, love, and an all-around good person.  He was an incredible Dad to his daughter, Sheree Lewis and granddaughter, Maliya Hunter.  He also leaves to cherish memories his sisters, Joanne Johnson-O'Neal (Percy), Diane Roye (Erica), brothers, Ronnie Roye (Ellie), and Lawrace Roye, along with his devoted cousins, Mary Justeen Mason (Cain), Samuel Lee Scott (Ladonna) and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family and close friends.

Celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 21180 Bagby Road, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
