James "Cisco" Fitzgerald was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, on August 2, 1943. He was raised and educated in Pittsburg and departed his home state when he joined the U.S. Army in December 1962 . Cisco proudly served his country and retired with an honorable discharge after 23 years and 10 months of active duty and National Guard service. Cisco made Caroline County his home for more than 20 years before moving to Essex. He was often seen cruising in his Rappahannock Electric truck keeping a watchful eye on right-of-way maintenance crews. He retired from Rappahannock Electric Cooperative after 35 years of employment.

Cisco enjoyed hosting family and friends for card games at home. He was an active bowler while his health allowed and followed NFL and college football. Cisco's passion was fishing and was evidenced by his boats, numerous trophies, and tons of fishing equipment. He spent many Sundays on the ponds in the morning and at the bowling alley in the afternoon. While he loved company and brief phone calls, he was not to be disturbed during Jerry Springer, Maury, The Steve Wilkos Show, and  Monday night wrestling.

Cisco transitioned into eternal rest with his family by his side on October 18, 2018. He was preceded in this transition by many family members including his siblings Robert Fitzgerald and Jeannie Turner, parents-in-law Matthew and Ruth Pollard, and his dear friends Charlie Boy Shepherd and Chuck Pleasants.

Those left to cherish Cisco's memory include his wife, Carla Fitzgerald; children, Vincent Childs (Erika), Rosalin Carter (Adam), Katina Tiller(Joshua), Raven Jackson (David), and Charles Jackson lll;  grandchildren: Kayla ,Vincent ,Kiya, Anerria & Ananda (known as This and That by grandpa), Jacari, Akaela, Amauri, Shyla and Devryn; parents-in-law, Peggy Bundy and Louise Bundy (Linda) ; other in-laws, Nancy Pollard, Eleanor Burrows (Charlie), Sandford Pollard (Minnie), Perry Pollard (Marion), Otha Pollard (Terry), Thomas Harris (Thelma), Andy Bundy, Karen Hundley (Terrell), and Carolyn Dabney; devoted extended family members Barbara Sue Pleasants and Lea' Montica Griffin of his Caroline County family; his steadfast friends Otis Fortune and Orlando Washington; and a long list of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends

A viewing will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Caroline Community Services Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, Virginia 22514. Interment will follow in Saint James Baptist Church Cemetery, 19514 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514 with Full Military Honors.
