Obituary

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7

At 12:10 am on the morning of June 27, 2013, Jacqueline Marie Saunders Robinson, surrounded by her family, answered the call of the master and made the transition to her new heavenly home.

Jackie was born on October 30, 1941 to the late Percy C. and Edith Saunders of Milford, VA. She was educated in the Caroline County Public Schools where she was active as a band member who played the clarinet, and a member of the basketball and softball teams.

Having been born to staunch Christian parents, she was baptized at an early age by Rev. A. P. Young and was active as a member of the Jr. and Sr. ministries, Jr. and Sr. Choirs, BTU and as one of the church's pianists.

In 1963, Jackie made her home in Connecticut where she worked as a Mental Health Associate for 28 years at the Connecticut Valley Hospital. In 1968, she was blessed with a son Jay, whom she loved and adored.

Following the scripture, "Honor your father..." Jackie came back home to be the caretaker for her father until his passing. Afterwards, she again became active in church being a faithful member of the Bible Study Class; being the President of the Senior Choir and filling in as pianist when needed. She was the primary overseer of the piano making sure broken strings were replaced and that the moisture level was at its optimum.

Jackie was a strong-willed, yet, kind and caring women who loved the Lord, and her family and friends dearly. Her favorite hobbies were playing the piano, fishing, and watching TV, especially the soap operas. She was also the vice chairman of the Evergreen Cemetery Committee.

God continued to bless her and in 2008, she moved into another home; however, as life went on, she developed and sustained many illnesses. Through it all, she kept her faith and fought the good fight and now we rejoice that she has arrived at her brand new home in heaven!

Jackie leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted son, Jay Robinson of New Britain, CT; siblings, Percy C. Saunders, Jr. (Joan), Marysville, CA; Mary S. Neal (John), Roanoke, VA; Austin J. Saunders, Middletown, CT, and Wendell B. Saunders, Kingsland, GA.; nieces, LaFavre R. Young (Ronald) and Carolyn S. Sterns, nephew, John Neal, Jr. (Fonda); dedicated cousins, Fannie L. Garnett, Helen Sizer, and Geneva Johnson-Thompson and many other committed close relatives and friends. Additionally, as part of the extended family, her loving and devoted caregivers, Annie Washington, Rhonda Wimmer and Tina Ortiz; her Hospice nurse, Julia Turnaway, RN., and her kind and caring neighbors, Tom and Sherry Parke.
