Irving Sylvester
Roy
Mar 5, 1953 — Mar 6, 2024
Richmond
Irving Sylvester Roy entered eternal rest on March 6, 2024, at Glenburnie Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Richmond, VA. Born March 5, 1953, Irving was the oldest son of the late Deacon Robert Roy and the late Deaconess Mary Roy of Supply, VA.
He attended Essex County Public Schools and entered the United States Army after graduation. He did Basic Training at Fort Bragg, NC, after which stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and then Schofield Barracks, HI, with the rank of SP4.
Anyone who knew Irving was aware of his love for Fishing. After his Honorable Discharge from the Military, Irving spent as much time as he could fishing. Other hobbies were watching television, eating, and walking. Because of his height, Irving would walk twice as fast as the average person, making it difficult for anyone who might have been walking with him.
Irving accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at a young age and was one of the first members of the Choraleers Choir at Ebenezer Baptist Church many years ago. Although he appeared to be quiet, Irving was intelligent, observant, kind, and effective in taking care of whatever needed to be done. He had a huge heart when it came to helping his family and others in the community.
Irving had two brothers that preceded him in death, Preston Jones and Curtis Roy.
Irving leaves to cherish his memory four brothers, Michael Johnson of Columbia, TN; Leon Roy (Joyce) of Milford, VA; Sherman Roy (Wanda) of Spotsylvania, VA; Edward Roy of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Margo Keeles (Tim) of Henrico, VA; and a sister-in-law, Helen Roy; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3207 Quarter Hill Road, Supply, Virginia 22436 with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
