Inez Elizabeth Upshaw very affectionately known as Mamma, Granny, Granny Inez, Nez or Lizzy was born Inez Elizabeth Thompson on October 23, 1935 to Lloyd and Mary M. Thompson and left her earthly home in Milford, Virginia on January 9, 2019.

Inez attended and graduated from the Washington, D.C. Public School System before making Virginia her permanent state of residency. She was blessed with one son Phillip. She attended Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, in Shumansville, Virginia then later joined St. James Baptist Church, in Milford, Virginia once she met and married Elijah Upshaw, Jr. and to this union was born one daughter; Angela.

Inez was a kind loving person with a heart of gold and a passion for cooking to feed any and all. She held many employment positions to include Keller Ladder, Whites Packing, Friction as well as Caroline County Public Schools before retiring to enjoy time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her father; Lloyd Thompson, mother; Mary M. Washington; brothers, Raymond and William Thompson; son Phillip Jones; stepfather, Elwood J. Washington; son-in-law, Robert F. Waller and husband, Elijah Upshaw, Jr.

She leaves memories to her loving and devoted daughter, Angela Waller; grandchildren, Darren, Shemeka, Kiana, Phillip, II and Robert, great-grandchildren; Shia, Datwan, Daniya, Darren, Dayveon, Keshawn, Kamiya, Kemontre, Aidan, Rashad, Demetrius and Damerius, sister; Betty Brown, devoted nieces; Shelia Thompson and Joyce Roy (Leon) as well  as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A SPECIAL thank you to Carolyn Day, Edna Roye, Roganda Freeman, Craig Woodard, II, Edgar Abrams, Wesley Freeman, and Warren and Bushay Brown for their acts of kindess.

A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held  at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at St. James Baptist Church, 19309 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.  Minister Joshua Griffin will be delivering the eulogy.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
