Obituary

Howard Spencer Greene, was the second child born to the late Calvin and Dedie Greene on June 6, 1934 in Salvia, Virginia. He gained his heavenly wings on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at his home in Sparta, Virginia.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and savior at an early age at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Sparta, Virginia. He served several years on  Jerusalem's Trustee board. He made sure the grass was cut in the cemetery and that the clock on the wall was always working.

Howard worked hard for his family his entire life although he never completed high school, he taught lessons on life and living through his work ethics. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 125. he worked as a logger in the 1960"s up to 1972. He also worked at Keller Aluminum Plant in Milford, Virginia for several years, Whites Packing in King George, Virginia and Caroline County Parks and Recreation until his retirement.

Howard was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He loved growing sweet potatoes and watermelons to give away. He grew them so big it even made him smile.  He loved  to go out on his boat in the wee hours of the morning with a crew to go fishing. He would stay out there all day until his cooler was full of fish. He would either give away the fish or have a fish fry with his family. During the first week of November, you could only find him in the woods with his many shotguns, looking for a deer, a rabbit or a squirrel. He was always a provider for his family.

He was a quiet man but his deeds spoke for him. He was a man's man. He worked hard and took care of his responsibilities at him. He loved all his family dearly.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Dedie Greene; one sister, Rebecca Hepburn and one brother, Bernard Greene.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 67 years, Romain Greene; two daughters, Jackie Pleasants of Aylett, Virginia and Edna Coles of Richmond, Virginia; two sons in law he thought of as his own, Tyrone Pleasants and Charles Cole; two loving sisters, Brenda Pitts of Richmond, Virginia and Julie Brown (Melvin) of Spotsylvania, Virginia; one sister in law, Shirley Lumpkin of  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one uncle, Wallace Greene of Varina, Virginia; a devoted cousin, Estelle Jones of Richmond, Virginia and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
