Herbert H. Hines Sr., the eighth child of the late Julian & Christine Hines, was born August 8, 1928 in Ellerbe, Ga. He peacefully passed away October, 6th 2018 at 9:58 a.m. at the Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida, with his family by his side. Herb was educated in the state of Georgia and went on to serve honourably in the United States Marine Corp.
Thereafter, he moved to Washington D.C. and studied Masonry. He helped build many of the Historic Buildings in D.C. While living in D.C., he joined the Trinity Baptist Church, serving as a Trustee and van driver. There he met and married Lona Ferguson. In this union, they were blessed with two glorious children Herbert Hines Jr. and Lovely Geraldine Hines Baylor.
They later moved to Virginia and he joined the Second Baptist Church in July during the Revival in 1963. He served on the Men's Fellowship, Usher Board and the Men's Chorus.
Later in life, he met and married the late Arlene Johnson Greene and was gloriously blessed with two step children; Thomas Greene Jr. and the late Vernice Greene McMillian.
As his health declined, he moved with his son to Florida, where he worshiped with the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church until he was admitted into the hospital.
He was preceded, in death by his wife, Arlene Johnson Greene Hines, and step daughter, Vernice Greene McMillian, brothers, Julian, Fleming, James, Frank, and his sisters, Evelyn, Christine, and Bessie.
Left to cherish his memories, one son, Herb Jr. and his wife Darlene, one daughter, Lovely Geraldine, one step son Thomas and wife Carolyn, eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three son in-laws, four sister in-laws, and a devoted niece Yvonne Greene. Two devoted friends, Bro. Fred Minor & Bro. Ronald Moore. Five devoted caretakers, Miss Helen, Sisters Addie Terrell, Jackie McMillian, Ruby Pearson, Darlene Hines and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
While living in Florida, Herbert enjoyed many days at the Easterseals Day Break Adult Center as they treated him as a beloved father figure. In lieu of flowers, please send donations payable to Easterseals Day Break at the Miller Center to:

A viewing will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday October 19,2018 at Second Baptist Church 26725 Ruther Glen Road, Ruther Glen, Virginia 22546.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Second Baptist Church with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
