Hector G. Lamont, 90 , son of the late Uriah Lamont and Adviery Powel Lamont was born on December 26, 1929 in Colon, Republic of Panama. he transitioned to his heavenly home on January 23, 2020 at Poet's Walk in Fredericksburg, Virginia
Hector was born into Catholicism but attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Bowling Green; however he never joined. He joined the United States Army in January 1954 and retired as a SSG on March 31, 1973 after twenty years of service and two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1966-67 and 1970-71.
He was a professional lead singer with the Premiers in the Republic of Panama and toured all over Europe with them from Frankfurt to Berlin. He was also backup singer for Patti Labelle, Joe Tex and James Brown. In March 1962 , he joined in holy matrimony with Clair Innis and from this union, two children were born; his son Hector Lamont, Jr., preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents and son, Hector was preceded in death by five sisters.
He leaves cherished memories to a daughter Debra Legister of Fort Washington, Maryland; five grandchildren, Teshandra M. Purcell, Ronaldo Purnell Cragwell, Nikaya Legister, Hector Gilferd Lamont Arthur and David Alexander Lamont Arthur; four great grandchildren, Yasudee Scott, Alyrnza Wilson, Ayanni Wilson and Alaya Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, among them are two nieces, Celina Dawes and Cresencia Ulloa who were raised as his daughters and who Hector was instrumental in bringing to the United States to begin their new lives.
A viewing will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, Virginia 22172.
