Peacefully, on Saturday, June 4, 2016, Almighty God gently closed the eyes of our beloved Gracie M. Washington, as she entered into eternal rest.
Gracie Mildred Christopher Washington was born on December 25, 1939 to the late Walker and Eliza Christopher. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and was baptized at St. James Baptist Church in Milford, Virginia under the leadership of Rev. E.L. Guss.
Gracie, better known as "Tee", attended Union High School. Gracie worked as a cannery instructor for the Caroline County School Board for over 25 years until her retirement. Gracie also became the loving caregiver for her father-in-law, Charlie Carter, her mother, Eliza B. Christopher and mother-in-law, Marie Carter in their later years of life.
Gracie served in numerous ministries throughout her service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at St. James Baptist Church to include the cemetery committee, birthday ministry, kitchen committee and was an original member of the nurse's unit for over thirty years. She also loved to decorate the church for special ceremonies and events.
Gracie was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Earl R. Washington (1980) and her eldest daughter, Mekco Earlene Washington (2006).
Gracie leaves to cherish her memory; three children, Orlando (Sharon) Washington of Milford, Virginia, Cathy Washington and Pamla (Glenn) Smith both of Fort Washington, Maryland; five loving grandchildren, Krystle, Jibrant, Orlando, Jr.,Jatori and Jacolby; two great-grandchildren, Jaliyah and Jelani; two sisters, Linda Mae Holmes and Ethel Christopher both of Milford, Virginia; one brother, Robert Christopher of Milford, Virginia and one sister-in-law Eunice Coleman of Milford, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, with a Christian wake from 7 to 8 p.m. at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 11, at St. James Baptist Church, 19514 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
