The Obituary

Grace Virginia Williams was born June 23, 1941 to the late Almeta Exum and Sylvella Barnes in Nash County, North Carolina.  God, who lent her to us, call her home on Sunday, May 31, 2026.  She had endured many illnesses in the last 10 years, but she kept the Faith. She moved to D.C. In 1958, she received her training as a seamstress.  But most Blessed of all, she became a full fledge Child of God.

Upon the birth of her first child, she turned to God, who had a better life for her.  She became a dedicated church member of Free Church where she met Walter Williams in 1972, and united in Holy Matrimony in 1973.

As the family grew, they prayed regularly together before leaving home, bedtime, and thank God for the food at the table.  She assisted all her children in obtaining college degrees, while she herself only had a GED.

She is survived by husband, Walter Williams of 52 years. Dorthea (Willie), Darlene, Tamia, and Terry (Britt). Grandchildren.  Evan, Caiden, and Kiran.  Special Daughter Monique and Children Joshua and Destiny.

Talkative and warm, she never met a stranger.  She touched so many people in ways that they will never know.  A kind heart, a giver, and a designer.  She was always creating something new, in clothing.  A collector of sewing machines, never seeing one she didn't like.  We all loved Grace and to be in her presence, especially her siblings.  Thomas, Clarence, William Taft, Raymond, Alfornza, David, Selina, Jackie, and Sister Hattie.

Grace (some called her "Amazing") was a devout Christian.  She was with Mother's Group and Choir in D.C.  The family moved to Virginia.  She was very industrious; running her own business as a seamstress to A.P. Hill Base, reseeding plants from her gardens, teaching younger generations how to sew and about God.  She also explored traveling, influenced by Darlene's job locations, which she would never have experienced otherwise.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the C.W Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be private.
