Gloria Jean (Brown) Garner was born on October 10, 1947 in Harrisonburg, Virginia to the late Isaiah S. Brown, Sr. and Madge E. Brown. She was the second of three children. Her Parents and brother Isaiah S. (Mike) Brown, Jr. preceded her in death.

As a child, Gloria sang in a family group with her father and two brothers. They sang at churches in Harrisonburg and surrounding areas. She was raised in a Christian home and joined the Methodist Church at an early age. Later she converted to the Baptist Religion and practiced her religion as she lived. She was baptized in 2019 by Rev. W. David Lee and became a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Woodford, Va. She attended and supported Beulah until her doctors advised her to refrain from being in crowds. However, Gloria stayed in contact with her church family and enjoyed praising and fellowshipping on the phone.

Gloria graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1966 and she then attended Virginia Union University. Gloria was employed at the following; Va. Veteran's Hospital in Richmond, Va. for 6 years, Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Virginia for 31 years, ad Spotsylvania Regional Hospital for 6 years until her retirement.

In December 1992, Gloria married Robert Cordell Garner, Sr. of Ruther Glen, Virginia. They made their home in Ladysmith, Virginia, and more than anything else she wanted Robert to know that "he was the love of her life". He took great care of her and she was grateful and thanked God for him.

Gloria met a very special friend when she was baptized....Deaconess Francyne  Jones. They prayed together, cried together, celebrated together and talked about God's promises together. She often said that God must have put them together to relate and assure each other. She often said that Francyne taught her how to pray. What a friend!

On the 14th day of May, 2020,Gloria transitioned from this world of labor and went home to reward. She often said that she couldn't wait to see Jesus. She loved God, believed in Jesus and wanted everyone to have the peace and assurance that she had.

Gloria shared her life  with many that will miss her. She leaves to cherish fond memories, her husband  of 27 years Robert  C Garner, Sr. two step-sons, Robert "Jack " Garner, Jr., and Cory Garner, one step daughter, Penelope " Penny" Smith, a brother, Jeffrey L. Brown of Waynesboro, Virginia, two brothers-in-law, Garry Leon Garner (Evelyn) and John C. Garner (Gloria), a sister-in-law, Evelyn G. Smith and a very special and devoted nephew, Allen L. Best all of Ruther Glen, Virginia, and a host of other family members and friends.

A viewing will be held Thursday May 21, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the C.W.Edwards Funeral Home Inc, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A private family graveside service will be held on Friday May 22, 2020.
