Gloria (Lady) Maxine  Freeman made a peaceful transition to Heaven on June 12, 2026 at Mary Washington Hospital after a brief illness.

Gloria was born in Balty, Caroline County on January 2, 1953.  She was the youngest of 8 children born to her late parents, Virginia Boxley Freeman and Lloyd Hampton Freeman.

At a young age, Gloria dedicated her life to Christ and became a faithful member of Saint John Baptist Church.  Gloria was an original member of the Spiritualettes choir.  She was educated in the Caroline County Public Schools.  Upon graduating from Union High School, she attended Virginia Union University where she received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  She was employed by Caroline County Public School System for many years as a paraprofessional and later as a substitute teacher.  As a youth, she and her siblings worked on their family farm, growing tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, sweet potatoes and more.  Although it was hard, the Freeman clan all hung together and had some fun as well.

Although Lady had a quiet spirit, as the youngest child, she had a way of getting what she wanted, when she wanted it with her parents and siblings.  She loved to shop and had a reputation as a sharp dresser.  Lady especially liked attending church at St. John and hanging out with her brother Tom.  They would be seen going everywhere together.  Lady also had a servant's heart.  She enjoyed visiting and sharing with her friends Janiece Washington, Mary Dudley, Mildred Cephus, and Brenda Baylor.

Gloria was preceded in death by her brother Tom Freeman, brother Raymond Freeman, sister Dorothy Harmon, and brother Bernard Freeman.

She leaves cherished memories to two sisters; Delores Freeman, Washington DC and Myrtle Fortune (Lucius) of Ruther Glen, VA; one brother, Robert Freeman, San Marcos Texas, nieces, Amy Carter (James "Mike"), Bernita Jackson (Michael), Latonia Freeman, Doswell, VA, Trisha Coleman, Washington, DC, Keisha Freeman, Ruther Glen, VA, Verona Freeman, San Marcos, TX, Divida Clary (Albert), San Marcos, Texas, nephews; Lydell Fortune (Joy), Ruther Glen, VA; Marcus Freeman, Rodney Freeman, Doswell, VA, Kenneth Freeman, King George, VA  and Warner Coleman, Washington, DC, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends, and a devoted caregiver, Myrtle Rock.

A viewing will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026 at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

There will be a viewing at 1:00 pm followed by Homegoing Celebration at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at St. John Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Saint John Baptist Church Cemetery, 17080 S. River Road, Woodford, VA, 22580.
