On Monday, October 28, 2019, Gloria Mae Fortune Beasley, quietly entered into eternal rest at her home in Sparta, Virginia. She was the second daughter born to the late Mel and Lucy Pierce Fortune on December 27, 1943. Gloria was affectionately known as "Mama", "Nu Nu", "Sister","G", "Auntie" and "Glo".
She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter; Verna Beasley (BB) and her two sisters; Melva Arlene Beasley and Dorothy Marie Smith.
Gloria joined Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age where she served faithfully in various capacities. Her services include, singing in the choir, President of the Usher Ministry, Assistant Superintendent of Vacation Bible School, Missionary Member, Sunday School Teacher and Assistant Chairperson of the Deaconess Ministry. She was also secretary of the Usher's Association and Youth Director. She loved working for the Lord, she was faithful and dedicated.
Gloria loved her family and loved cooking for them and anyone that stopped by whether family or friends. She was all about Peace, Love and Happiness and making everyone feel right at home.
Gloria was united in Holy Matrimony to Lindsey S. Beasley, February 17, 1962. To this union six girls were born. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She always kept a smile on her face.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband of 57 years, Lindsey S. Beasley, five devoted daughters; Amelia Monroe (Mack), Rosalind Berry, Katrina Beasley, Teresa Sims and Anitra Johnson; two devoted sons in law whom she looked at as her own, Charles Sims and James Johnson; twenty two grandchildren, four devoted whom she raised, LaToya Grant, Naquita Beasley, Angela Wright and Larry Reynolds, Jr.; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother in law, Lewis Beasley; four sisters in law, Doris Chestnut (Charles), Kathleen Richards (Charlie), Virginia Beasley and Doris Beasley; six loving cousins, who were like sisters and brothers, Edwina Woolfolk, Brenda Smith, Janice Saunders, Cecelia Deyo-Fox, Michael Pierce and Steffon Deyo; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 21180 Bagby Road, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
