Gladys Marie
Young
Nov 13, 1938 — Jan 5, 2019
The Almighty, in His infinite wisdom, gently closed the eyes of our love one, Gladys Marie Garnett Young, on January 5, 2019, at Bowling Green Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 13, 1938, in Caroline County, to the late John and Virginia "Jenny" Garnett. She was the youngest of six children.
She was married on August 4, 1955 to the late Edwin Earl Young, Sr. and from this union three children were born.
Gladys accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Milford, Virginia and she remained active until her health began to decline.
Gladys attended Union High School in Bowling Green, Virginia. She was employed by Randolph-Macon College for thirty-years in the Food Services Department. Gladys was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She was affectionally known to her grands and great-grands as "Ni Ni." She was a collector of many things, to include, roosters and recipes. Gladys loved to cook; at family gatherings everyone looked for her potato salad and 7-up pound cake.
During her three years at Bowling Green Health & Rehabilitation Center, Gladys made many friends with the residents and staff. She enjoyed taking part in the weekly worship service, BINGO and JINGO games.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Vernon L. Young; three sisters, Mattie Robinson, Matilda Haggins, and Gracie Tillman; one brother, John Douglas Garnett, Jr. and a devoted cousin Geneva Garnett.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two devoted children, one son, Edwin Earl Young, Jr. and his wife, Ruby of Ruther Glen, Virginia; one daughter, Brenda Young Minor and her husband Percell of Milford, Virginia; four grandchildren, Cherwanda L. Minor of Milford, Virginia ; Edwin E. Young, III of Ruther Glen, Virginia; Rohshawn D. Young of Ashland, Virginia; and Felicia Minor-Mewborn and her husband Nathaniel Mewborn of Ruther Glen, Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Edwin E. Young IV of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Makayla M. Minor of Milford, Virginia; Zaniya L. Young of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and Chase R. Young and Tristan R. Young both of Ashland, Virginia; one sister, Mary G. Anderson of Richmond ,Virginia; one sister-in-law, Mildred Young of Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Among them one devoted nephew, Charles Robinson of Atlanta, Georgia; and one caring friend, Arelia Pannell. Gladys will be dearly missed by family and friends.
