Gerald Willis Childs was born on April 8, 1960 in Fredericksburg, Virginia to the late Dorothy L. Childs and George Washington.

He  was baptized at Second Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Milford, Virginia. He graduated from Caroline High School in 1979 and immediately joined the United States Air Force where he served for twelve years stateside and in Italy until he was honorably discharged.

He lived in Kansas City, Missouri for thirty years before returning to home to Virginia in 2013 where he started employment with Amazon Distribution Center until his passing. Gerald had a really calm and cool spirit about him. He loved basketball, his favorite players was "Dr.J"  and "Mike. He was a true Parliament Funkadelic fan until the end.

Gerald always loved spending time with family and friends, ready at anytime to take a picture throwing up the P-Funk sign and singing the funk. He loved to debate politics, sports or just life in general.

He was preceded in death by his oldest brother G. Archie Childs.

Gerald is survived by two sons; Julian and Jarrel Childs of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Helena Roundtree (Louis) of Louisburg, North Carolina; four brothers, C. Jerome Washington (Shelia) of Navarre, Florida, Michael A. Washington (Bernice) of Stafford, Virginia, Carlton Childs of Durham, North Carolina and Bryan Wilson (Anita) of Hopewell, Virginia; two uncles, John Childs (Deborah) of Bowling Green, Virginia and Wesley Freeman of Milford, Virginia; three honorary aunts, Marjorie Sydnor of Washington, D.C., Margie Peatross of Bowling Green, Virginia and Patricia Young of Bowling Green, Virginia; a cousin that was like a brother, Jamie Totten (Deborah) of Chesterfield, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A walk thru viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

Funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in St. James Baptist Church Cemetery, 19514 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514
