George Lowell Wright, Jr., 64, of Spotsylvania, Va. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 4th at his home in a restful sleep the way God intended it to be.
He attended public school in Caroline County, Virginia and graduated from Union High School. He was a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church from a very young age until his health declined. He sang in the "Hour of Power" choir: and was a member of the Usher Ministary. He was also a faithful member of the Sunday School where he loved his teachers and members of the class. His famous words were "It is all good" and "I love you".
George enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduating from high school. He distinguished himself by gallantry in action with Military operations against an opposing armed forces in Southeast Asia earning him a "Silver Star". As well as the Silver Star he also received various other awards. During his time in the Air Force he traveled to numerous places across the world including Southeast Asia and Africa.
He was a kind and humble man with a smile for everyone. His joy for the day was picking with people in a joyous and humorous way. During his tenure of employment, he worked at FMC in Possum Point, US Mail carrier, GSA, and then became his own Supervisor aa "Wright Handyman".
He was a member of Big Brother - Big Sister organization, where he was a Big Brother to two young men that he mentored. He was also a member of the Jaycees Organization for many years.
He was united in marriage and devoted to Edith M. Wright and to this union was born a devoted son, Rodney (Lisa Ann) Wright, Grandson, Anton Wright, and Granddaughter, Kira Wright all of Copperas Cove, Texas; three devoted sisters: Mary (Charles) Fox and Verdree Ann Parker, both of Spotsylvania, Virginia and Shelia Wright of Woodbridge, Virginia; Sister, Carolyn Thomas, preceded him in death; a devoted brother, Rev. Robert (Alberta) Wright of Ruther Glen, Virginia; an adopted sister, Gloria Anderson, of Ruther Glen, Virginia; two brothers-in-law: Wayne Richards of Silver Spring, Maryland and Stevie Herring of Baltimore, Maryland, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many friends.
A viewing will be held from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580 with Rev. Dr. W. G. Berryman, Pastor, officiating and delivering the eulogy.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
