Obituary

Geneva Earlene Fortune Jeter, 74, was born December 1, 1941 in Caroline County, Virginia. She gained her heavenly wings on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 8:49 p.m. enjoying what she loved; watching her youngest grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing in the yard at her daughter's residence in Caret, Virginia.

Geneva was the fourth child born to the late George D. and Elnora J. Fortune. She joined St. Stephens Baptist Church at a very early age. In 1960, Geneva graduated from Union High School in Caroline County. She attended Virginia State University from 1960 to 1962 where her major was Early Childhood Education. On March 31, 1963 she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Clarence A. Jeter and from this union, four children were born. She was very active in church as a Captain for Women's Day, Usher Ministry, Missionary Ministry and Kitchen Committee. She drove school bus for Caroline County Public Schools for 38 years and the Food Service Department for 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clarence A. Jeter,I , her eldest son, Clarence A. Jeter, II; a sister, Gladys Fortune; and two brothers, Hilton D. and Larry D. Fortune, Sr.

Geneva leaves to cherish her memories, four children, Jane (Liz) Johnson (Ronald, Sr.) of Caret, Virginia, (Clarence Jeter II, Deceased) Rena of Ruther Glen, Virginia, Victoria (Vicky) Carter (Ryan) of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Lance Jeter (Kristy) of Ruther Glen, Virginia. Eight grandchildren; Ronald (TJ) Johnson, Jr., Temika Byrd (Timothy, Sr.), Dennis Jeter (Yuri), Clarence (CJ) Jeter, III (Nitra), Mya' Jeter, Mylea' Carter, Nevaeh Jeter and Larenz (LJ) Jeter. Nine great-grandchildren; Jeremiah Sims, Avion Pope, Twan Johnson, Brielle' Hall, London Johnson, Jacob Byrd, Joshua Byrd, Nila Jeter and Timothy Byrd, Jr.; Four brothers; ( Hilton D. Fortune, Deceased) Mary of Tappahannock, Virginia,Arthur E. Fortune of North Carolina and Mitchell R. Fortune (Barbara) of Bowling Green, Virginia. (Larry D. Fortune, Deceased) Ellen of Tappannock, Virginia. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Two caretakers; Joyce Taylor and Priscilla Johnson. Special friends; Ester Jeter, Addie Fortune and Co-workers of Caroline County school bus drivers and food services.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 24, at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home , 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Caroline Middle School 13225 Devils Three Jump Road, Milford, Virginia 22514. Interment will follow at St. Stephens Baptist Church Cemetery, 29346 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514.
