Obituary

Fannie Isabelle Freeman, 88, of Ruther Glen, departed this life on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

She was born on July 19, 1923 to the late Emmit Baylor and Mary Fells Baylor.

She was educated in Dawn Public School in Dawn, VA.

She received Christ at an early age and joined Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dawn, VA.

She worked at several restaurants in Caroline County, among those Clay Springs Restaurant, Bowie, and Aunt Sarah's where she retired after thirty-two years. She retired at the age of 79. Cooking was her passion.


She joined Mt. Oni Baptist Church after marriage.

She was married to Wilbert A. Freeman for forty-two years. She was a devoted wife.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Wilbert "Will" Freeman, two sisters; Florence Stevens and Adell Pleasants, five brothers; Emmitt, Arthur Lee, Clifford, Raymond, and Fred Baylor, and her son in law, Norman Gill.

Fannie leaves to cherish her memories; Laura Gill, Sherman Anderson (Betty); Mary Fells (Wesley); Edith Wingfield(George); Juanita Spurlock (Leon) and Alease Anderson, one sister; Mary Anderson, one brother, Edmond Baylor and one foster brother, Charles Fells; one aunt, Margaret Lewis; five sister-in-laws, Yvonne Baylor, Louise Freeman, Helen Jones, Bettie Smith; and Belinda Freeman; six brother in-laws; Willie, Johnnie, Sylvester, Vernon Freeman, Oscar Jones and Jeremiah Smith; ten grandchildren and one devoted grand daughter, Nseya Gill, seven great-grand children, four great great grand children, two adopted daughters, Yvonne Moffett and Nicole Mercer and three devoted friends, Louise Freeman, Virginia Brown and Francis Pleasants; a host of neices and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, December 19, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, at Mt. Oni Baptist Church, 14135 Dry Bridge Road, Ruther Glen, Virginia 22546 with Rev. Harry Carter, delivering the Eulogy.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
