The love of my life, Everett Herbert Green—Lee, as many knew him—left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on June 10, 2025. He made his transition with me and other family members by his side.

Everett was born on December 20, 1948, in Caroline County, Virginia, to the late Matlyn Green Roye Edwards and Bernard Thompson. He attended Caroline County Schools until the 11th grade and later received his Certificate of Diploma from the State of Washington on November 3, 1972, while serving in the armed forces.

Everett enlisted in the United States Army September 3, 1969, during the height of the Vietnam War and was discharged April 17, 1971. He completed Army Basic Training at Ft. Benning, GA, and his Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Ft. Gordon, Ga. He graduated from the Telephone Installation Repair Course and was recognized as a Distinguished Honor Graduate for outstanding academic achievement. His first duty station was with ICORPS 51st Signal Battalion, Ui Jang Bu Korea where he served as a squad leader. He and his team made frequent trips to the demilitarized zone repairing damaged communication lines caused by North Korean soldiers. He separated from the US Army in April 1971 after his tour in Korea. With limited career opportunities, Everett reenlisted in July 1971 and served the next three years with the 8th Signal Battalion, 8th Infantry Division in Germany. His dedication to service earned him several awards to include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Everett completed his military service honorably attaining the rank of Sergeant and separated July 15, 1974. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge Eureka No. 5, St. Stephens Church, VA, and a member of VFW, Post 9501, Aylett, VA.

It was while serving in the Army that he met my brother, Lonnie Pierce Sr.—his best friend—who introduced the two of us. We dated for three years, and on August 20, 1977, I married the love of my life. During our marriage, we raised two wonderful children, Keone A. Pierce and Aliesha M. Pierce. Everett was not the disciplinarian—he was the one who spoiled them. He provided for us always, right up until the very end.

Everett loved watching wrestling, westerns, and home movies. He could spend hours in the shed or in the yard. Music was always part of his life—especially oldies and gospel. He loved deeply, not just his family, but every animal he encountered. He had a heart for all of God's creation.

After the military, Everett built a successful and respected career. He received a Certificate of Apprenticeship in Pipefitting and Refrigeration in February 1980 and a Certificate in Refrigeration Compressor Rebuilding in November 1982. These credentials opened the door for work with Munford Refrigeration and later Varina Refrigeration in Richmond, VA. In 1992, he began working for Caroline County Middle School as a Maintenance Technician. He loved that job, and it loved him back. Staff, students, and coworkers admired his work ethic and his heart. He was known as "Mr. Green the Fix-It King" because there was almost nothing he couldn't do—HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, you name it. Even after retiring in 2010, he never truly retired. He continued to respond to calls—sometimes in the middle of the night—and often never asked for a dime. That was just who he was: generous, kind, and dependable.

Everett loved God deeply. In his early years, he attended Beulah Baptist Church in Spotsylvania. Later, he was baptized at First Mt. Olive Baptist Church on April 12, 2009. In 2012, he joined New Mount Olive Christian Center, where he was ordained a deacon on December 16, 2012. When the church transitioned into New Life Community Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Littycia Clay-Crawley in 2015, Everett continued to serve—first as deacon, and later, where his gifts truly shined—as a trustee. He also served faithfully as a trustee with the Pamunkey Baptist Association. He loved attending Bible study and prayer, and he often referred to God simply and reverently as "Father." His favorite scripture was John 14. He didn't pretend to be perfect—he talked often about the good, the bad, and the ugly of life—and how all of it brought him into a closer relationship with God.

Everett is preceded in death by his grandmother, Ada B. Green, who raised him; his father, Bernard Thompson; his mother, Matlyn Roye Green Edwards; his brother, Charles F. Roye; and his sister, Francyne R. Jones.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and faith. His life will forever be cherished by me, his wife Dianne; his children, Keone A. Pierce Sr. and Aliesha M. Pierce; his sisters: Clenenteen Byrd (Ronald) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Phyllis Bryant of Herndon, VA, Jenetta Hopkins (Earl) of Woodford, VA, and Gladys Reynolds of Ruther Glen, VA; his brother, Alexander Lewis of Richmond, VA; and grandchildren: Nikayla Sinclair, Keyonna Beasley, TaJonn Nickelson, Keovanna Jones-Pierce, and Keone Jones-Pierce Jr. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Madison and Maci Sinclair.

He was deeply loved by his sisters-in-law: Pamela Pearson (West Deptford, NJ), Valerice Kelly (St. Stephens Church, VA), and Beverley Taylor (Robert) of St. Stephens Church, VA; and his brothers-in-law: Lonnie Pierce Sr. (Alma) of Severn, MD, and George Pierce Jr. (Virginia) of Millers Tavern, VA. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family, friends, and one very special adopted cat, "Ms. Woody," whom he is now reunited with.

Everett Green was a man of strength, humility, humor, and deep love—for God, for family, for his Pastor (Rev. Dr. Littycia Clay-Crawley), for his New Life Community Church family and for community. His life was a testimony, and I will forever be grateful to have been his wife.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Caroline High School, 19155 Rogers Clark Blvd, Milford, Virginia 22514, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at H. L. Brown Cemetery, 6100 Cedon Rd., Woodford, Va, 22580
