Obituary

Eugene Debois Claiborne. affectionately called "Jack" by family and friends, was the oldest son of the late James and Eloise Claiborne. He was born in Caroline County, Virginia. God called him to eternal rest Friday, March 20, 2015, at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Hospital in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

Jack was educated in the Caroline County public school system. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the armed services. He was stationed in various places, but his experience in Germany left him with lasting memories. He was a Corporal in the military and was awarded the Occupation Medal (Germany), Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Jack was honorably discharged after two years of service.

He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Jericho Baptist Church. There he served on the usher board and later became the president of the first male ushers ministry. Jack was a dedicated member of the Jericho Baptist Brotherhood.

He was joined in matrimony to Helen Young for 63 years, They were blessed with seven children. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jacqueline Kim.

Jack was known for giving others unconditional love. He enjoyed helping his family and people throughout the community in anyway that he could and wherever there was a need. He and Helen generously shared their home with all who visited. Their home became everyone else's home. He had a great sense of humor that was used to bring laughter and joy to many. God blessed him to bear his illness and continued to strengthen him to the end.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted and loving wife, Helen; his children, Alphonso (Anita) of Mechanicsville, Shelva (Purcell) of Caroline, Robin (John) of Indiana, Janice (Marcus) of Richmond, Bruce (Jackie) of Caroline, and Darrick (Tara) of Caroline; grandchildren, Mario (Jessica), Korin, Keeanna (Demetrius), Kristin, Kelli, Kara, Kristina, Micah; one great granddaughter, Ellison; one sister, Lucy Wood(Maryland); one brother, Larry (Regina) of Richmond; six sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from noon to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 7 to 8 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A celebration of life will he held on Friday March 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Jericho Baptist Church, 8435 Jericho Road, Ruther Glen, Virginia 22546. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
