Essie Louise Colbert, 90, beloved daughter of late Blanche Hutchinson and Malcolm Hutchinson Sr. was born on May 15,1935 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She went to glory on November 18, 2025.

While living in Washington, D.C. as a child, she attended D.C. public schools. In her younger years she worked as a seamstress at the Country Club dry cleaners for 15 years. In the early 1970s she then went on to work for the House of Representatives in the Rayburn House Office building as a custodian for 18 years. She retired in late 1980s.

After retirement Essie moved to Bowling Green, Virginia in the early 1990s. While retired, she began working as a devoted seamstress for Paramount Parks, where she nearly worked for 25 years.

She was a kind and humble spirit. Always making jokes that would for sure make you laugh and always giving words of wisdom every time she spoke with you. She loved dancing, especially when she would show off her famous two step.

As the oldest of 9 children, she was predeceased in death by her sisters, Annette Hutchinson and Edith Hutchinson: Brothers Malcolm Hutchinson Jr., Cleonard Hutchinson, Leonard Hutchinson.

Essie is survived by daughter Bonita Stevens. Grandchildren: Patria Shepherd, Glenda Stevens, Joy Stevens. Great-Grandchildren: Jermaine Shepherd Jr., Jada Shepherd, Malik Porter, Journi Moseley, Mekhi Moseley, Jaiden Brooks. Sisters: Katherine Hutchinson and Inethia Hutchinson. Brother: Sylvester Hutchinson.

A Memorial service will be held at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. Chapel, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, 2:00pm to 3:00pm.
