Emma Beatrice Boone Parker Baylor, 94, of Ruther Glen, Virginia entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2021 at Envoy of West Over Hills in Richmond, Virginia. The eldest of 8 children born to the late Alonza E. Boone and Mary Ellen Gray Boone, on October 4, 1927, in Cedar Fork which has now grown into the well-known area called "Boonetown" on Jericho Road.

Being educated in Caroline County, allowed Emma to attend several of the historic two-room schools which served the Afro-American community during the earlier years. Her educational journey began when she attended the Ebenezer School which was located on the property in close proximity to the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Chilesburg, Virginia. Emma walked daily to and from school regardless of weather conditions from the current Boonetown area to where EBC is located today. She also attended Jericho, McDuff, and St. John Schools. After public school buses were provided in Caroline County, Emma was transported to Union High School in Milford, Virginia.

Emma joined and was baptized at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Chilesburg, Virginia under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Ford. She remained a faithful and committed member of Ebenezer for over eighty (80) years. Emma served in many capacities at Ebenezer throughout the years. She sang in the first organized choir under the leadership of Sister Inez Gray. Her powerful alto voice could be heard in the Ebenezer choirs for many years. Emma served on the Usher Board, the Missionary Society as treasurer, and as a Substitute Sunday School Teacher. In the late 70's, Emma organized and chaired the first Baby contest given at Ebenezer as a fundraiser to benefit the construction for the new church. She was truly a pioneer.

She has been known as the family photographer with hundreds of pictures and photo albums that include generations of her family and friends. Emma created a greeting card ministry that touched the lives of her family, friends, and others throughout the community. Whatever the occasion, everyone would receive a card with "A Piece of Money" put inside with scotch tape. She had a very generous spirit and firmly believed that "the more you give, the more you would receive". Emma was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Emma was united in marriage to Namen Hergie Parker, a US Navy Sailor in January 1948. To this union, three children were born: twin boys Namen & Norman, and one girl Marilyn. After the death of her first husband, she was united in marriage to Wyrter B. Baylor. To this union a son, Robert T. J. Baylor, was adopted. She was preceded in death by her husbands, twin boys, infant sister Elizabeth, and brothers Charles, Sr., Welford, Robert, and Walter. To continue her legacy of love are her sister Louise Young, brother Freddie Boone (Daphne), sister-in-law Dorothy Boone, Daughter's-in-law Ruth Parker, Jennette Parker, Janet Parker, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 10 great great-grandchildren, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Please note this is a change:   Celebration of life service will be held graveside at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 18562 Countyline Church Road, Ruther Glen, Virginia 22546. There will be no public viewing.
