Obituary

Elsie Mae Felder was born November 6, 1938 in Ashland, Virginia to the late Minnie and Johnny Thomas. She was married to the late Leroy Felder for 42 years. On Thursday, June 2, 2016, God ordered her to come home.

Elsie was educated, in the District of Columbia Public Schools, she accepted Christ early in life and attended John S. Thomas Memorial Baptist Church where she sang on the gospel choir. She and Leroy resided in Ruther Glen, Virginia for 38 years. She was employed as a domestic worker and later worked as an in home childcare provider.

Elsie enjoyed taking care of children and because of her compassion for the elderly and sick she was often asked to care for or provide support to family members within her community, in which she did with love.

She leaves to cherish her memories; her devoted daughter Robin and son-in-law Eddie of Tampa, Florida; three grandchildren Kylan of Corona, California, Cherina of Tampa, Florida and Dakari of Leesburg, Virginia; one granddaughter-in-law, Tarsha; two great-children, Kealani and Torren, one sister, Eva "Louise" Barnes and one brother, Danny Proctor. Her sister Effie Smith, proceeded her in death. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, four sister-in-law, Jackie Ruffin, Jeannie Hall, Beatrice Ward and Annette Sye; one brother-in-law William Felder and two extended family members, Faye Thomas and Johnnie Braxton as well as her church family.

She was a devoted member of Saint John Baptist Church serving as missionary and singing on the Chancel Choir. She will truly be missed.



A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia and one hour before the service on Thursday at the church.

A celebration of life will be at 12 noon on Thursday, June 9, at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road,
Woodford, Virginia 22580. Rev. Dr. W. G. Berryman, Pastor, will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
