Edward S. Saunders was born October 10, 1952 in Caroline County, Virginia.
Ed was born to Joseph and Carrie Saunders. He grew up fishing, hunting, and attended Caroline County Public Schools. After high school, Edward attended trade school for automotive mechanics which lead to a career in the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority. During that tenure, he serviced and maintained the public buses in Washington D.C. for 23 years until retirement. Edward loved to stay busy outdoors helping friends with handy work and supporting others at monumental events. He also filled his time by driving the Fred Bus in Fredericksburg, VA.
Ed was very involved in the community through church as a trustee, deacon, as well as building and grounds. Mr. Saunders was a free and accepted mason, known as Eddie Floyd or Big Boy by his coworkers, while other people called him "Ed". He was loved by all. Edward was an avid fan of Westerns and The Andy Griffith show which he held close to his heart. He was a kind, proud man who shared wisdom and greatly cherished his children and grandchildren.
In the final weeks of Ed's life, his health abruptly declined in late March when he was hospitalized. Ed was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday May 3, 2023 at 5:15 pm while being surrounded by his family.
At his passing, Ed was 70 years old.
He was proceeded in death by his father Joseph Saunders mother, Carrie M. Saunders, sister Shirley Foxx, and brothers Bernard and Joseph Saunders II.
Ed is survived by his his children, Marshawn Thompson, Brittney Saunders, Malik Temple, and Destiny Simon. His grandchildren Marley Haynes and Nyla Saunders, brothers, James and Alonzo, Sr. nephews ,Joseph Saunders Jr., Alonzo Saunders Jr., Melvin Foxx Jr., Domonique Saunders, and niece Treva Saunders. His god child Sharnae Little other relatives, many friends and colleagues.
Viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 127 South Main Street, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Mt. Lawn Cemetery, Woodford Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.
