Edward L Beverly, Sr. was born January 10, 1919 in King and Queen to Chassie and Cassie Beverly. Ed was one of eleven children. He attended Caroline County Public Schools and helped his family on their farm.

Later in life, he moved to Steelton, Pennsylvania to join other family members, then he enlisted in the U. S. army and did a tour in Papua, New Guinea as a military policeman. After his military career, he moved to Washington, D.C. where he met and married Irene Lee Brannan. To this union four children were born, Cassandra, Edward, Jr, Judith and Terrence; two stepsons Ronald and Reginald Brannan. Reginald preceded him in death.

Throughout his life he worked at different places before he finally decided to retire in 1987 from the Commonwealth Department of Pennsylvania. At that time he served as a deacon at St. Paul Baptist Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Ed returned to Caroline County and joined the band of Christians at the St. John Baptist Church, Milford, Virginia under the leadership of Rev Dr. W.G. Berryman. He sung on the choir and served as deacon.

Ed met and married Madge Moreland on September 5, 1998 at Mt. Salem Baptist Church, Ruther Glen, Virginia. There he joined the Male Chorus, the Men of Standard Ministry, and later became the Chairman of the Deacons Ministry. He was devoted as well as dedicated to his God and church until his health declined.

Ed was eternally grateful to Madge for having devoted herself to loving and nurturing him. He loved his friend, caregiver, and fellow church member, Robert Allen for the patience, kindness and love that was shown daily. Ed will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of seventeen years, Madge; his children, Ronald Brannan (Martha), Cassandra Muse (David), Edward Beverly, Jr. (Theresa), Judith Webb (Alfred), and Terrence Beverly, (Tawanda); sisters, Alice Washington and Eleanor Square both of Ruther Glen, Virginia. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A viewing will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Friday January 29, and one hour before the service at Mt. Salem Baptist Church, 16170 Moore's Mill Road, Ruther Glen, Virginia 22546.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 30, at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
