On Tuesday October 16, 2018 the Father called home his solider Edith Maude Washington after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She spent her final years always surrounded by the love of her family. In her final hours she was comforted by her five generations along with her niece Marsha and great niece Monica.

Born Elizabeth Maude James on July 28, 1928 to the late Jesse and Anna James in New York City, NY, she was named Edith by her grandmother who raised her in Shumansville, Virginia. She received her education at Caroline County Schools, and accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church at an early age. Edith was an active member of the church and served as Deaconess and a Missionary until she became ill in 2012.

Edith joined Marion Washington in holy matrimony in 1946, and was a devoted wife and mother of two daughters Joyce and Jean. She was known for her humility and financial savvy. Edith loved her family and home, which she enjoyed decorating and redecorating. She loved to laugh on the phone with her friends and family, and always had something good baking in the oven. Edith was the matriarch of her family, and her home was always a sanctuary for loved ones. Over the last few years she expressed her great love for her husband Marion. Edith attended every graduation, birthday, wedding, and holiday with her loving family. She has blessed our lives with her laughter, love, support, and wisdom that will be missed greatly.

Now that Edith has joined her beloved husband Marion and her youngest daughter Jean on that other shore, her memory will live on in her eldest daughter Joyce Ann Allen, and her six grandchildren: Michelle, Debbie, Frederick (Hazel), Ronnet (Henry), Jenae, and Emanuel (Jasmin); twelve great-grandchildren: Martishia (Antwan), Tiffany, Henry Jr. (Vielka), Constance, Torrel (Lynda), Jessica, Tysin, Jasmyn, Colin, Joshwa, Mackenzie, Londyn and Averi Jean; four great-great-grandchildren: Kyrah, Taylor, Chase, and Henry III. Also waiting for Edith in heaven is her dearest sister Alma, and other siblings. She was greatly loved and leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends that held a special place in her heart.

Visitation will be held at the C.W.Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 on Saturday October 20, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday October 21,2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church 21795 Mattaponi Trail Milford, Virginia,22514  with a viewing one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
