Earnest Hampton Jones, of Ruther Glen, Virginia, having received a measure of God's grace and mercy, entered eternal rest on November 6, 2020. Earnest was born November 3, 1928, to the late McKinley and Susie Jones. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Sparta, Virginia.
Earnest entered holy matrimony on June 24, 1950 to Evelyn G. Smith, a union that would stand the test of time until the death of "the love of his life" on October 9, 2000. From this union, six children were born.
Earnest's service to his country was one his proudest accomplishments, having served gallantly in the Korean War and earning the purple heart medal for bravery. He was active in many military organizations, among them the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Earnest continued his affiliation with all things military and retired from the Quantico Marine Corps base in November 1988 after working for thirty-six years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Jones; sons, Keith and Orlando Jones; daughter, Joyce Jones; grandsons, Charles Caraway and Aaron Mack, as well as several siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Ernest (Donna) of Champaign, Illinois, two daughters, Angela Mack and Sandra Elam of Richmond, Virginia; two daughters-in-law Velma Jones (Orlando) and Frances Jones (Keith) of Richmond; three sisters, Gladys Goode of Richmond, Doris Nelson (Eddie) and Barbara Rock of Ruther Glen, Virginia; one brother, Lorenzo Jones (Jannie) of Ruther Glen, Virginia; ten grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
