On October 2, 2022, Rev. Earl Theotis McManus of Sparta, Virginia was called away from labor to his heavenly home.   He was born and raised in Monroe, NC; but educated in Durham, NC. He was born to the late Odell and Mary McManus.

Earl enlisted in the US Army and served a tour of duty in the Korean War and Vietnam.  After serving his country, Earl worked 30+ years as an Offset Pressman for the National Science Foundation while also serving as a Union Representative with AFL-CIO. He had a part time evening job with the Government Printing Office and he studied Watch Repair and Craftsmanship in evening classes. Earl served as Superintendent of Sunday School and Baptist Training Union (B.T.U.) of Jerusalem Baptist Church for a brief period before answering the calling to the ministry.

He was later ordained and entered into the ministry in 1981 after attending Washington Bible College. He was an avid baseball fan. He was an honorary scout for the Cleveland Indians. He was a history buff and loved hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Coleman McManus, second wife Alice McManus, brothers - Vera McManus and Andre McManus of New York, Freddie Parker of Durham, N.C.  Earl loved spending time with family and leaves behind many memories of love and fellowship.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories his 3rd wife Peggie B. McManus of Charlotte, N.C, brother ; Vertis McManus, Sr. of Benton Harbor, MI, Children - daughter Sophia McManus-Price of Sparta, VA., two sons; Andre McManus (Carla) of Marietta, Ga, Cedric McManus (Nicholle) of Sparta, VA. and step daughter Annette Kirkpatrick of Charlotte, NC. Grandchildren - Antonia Odom (Evan) of Marietta, Ga, Winfrey McManus of Marietta, Ga, and Savon Banks of Sparta, VA, Zavea Kirpatrick and Vondie Kirkpatrick of Charlotte, N.C. great-grand children ; Noelle Odom, Jaivin Parham and Cordero Spencer and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 21180 Bagby Road, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
