On Saturday, January 18, 2018, God sent his angels down from heaven to bring Dorothy Ann Garnett Edwards home with him. She died at her home in Bowling Green, Virginia after health complications where her sister, Vernelle and husband, Anthony took care of her upon her death. Dorothy was born March 17, 1943, in Caroline County to the late Leslie Garnett and Dollie Carter Garnett.
She joined Mount Tabor Baptist Church at an early age. She attended Union High School in Bowling Green, Virginia. Soon after high school, she moved to New York City where she met her late husband of 52 years, William Freddie Edwards.
She lived in New York City for many years working as a seamstress until she moved back home to Caroline County. She worked at the Caroline Middle School until moving into healthcare where she worked at Bowling Green Health and Rehabilitation Center as a nurse's aid. Later she became a Caregiver until she could no longer work. Dorothy was a kind and generous person who always wanted to help others.
Five siblings preceded her in death, Clara Beverly, Herbert Garnett, Melvin Garnett, John Garnett and William Garnett.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her brother, Raymond Garnett (Florence) of Shumansville, Virginia; sister Vernelle Greene ( Anthony) of Bowling Green, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Princess, Shirley and Joyce; nieces, Susan (James), Joann, (John), Cathy, Shirley, Betty and Yvette; nephews, Frankie (Trina), Ray (Barbara) Mack (Tonia), Mark, Sean, Brandon, Terrence; great nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 21795 Mattaponi Trail, Milford, Virginia 22514 followed by funeral service at 2:00 PM.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
