Doris Mae Fortune, 83, of Henrico County went to be with the Lord, Friday, February 2nd, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents and her niece, Shawn Fortune-Garnett.

Doris was born on September 4th, 1940, in Caroline County to William Dan Fortune and Maude Reynolds Fortune.  She attended Caroline County public schools. She also attended the MCV school of nursing where she received her degree in nursing.

She enjoyed a distinguished 48-year career as a nurse working at MCV, Richmond Memorial, Regional Memorial, AJD Cap Company and Virginia Eye Institute. She loved animals and gardening.  Doris was also an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and family. In addition, she loved to spend Sunday afternoons during football season talking on the phone with her brother, Bill, while they watched the Washington Commanders Football games together.

She is survived by her daughter, Erika Davis, devoted son in-law, John R. Davis, Jr, devoted nephew, Reginald N. Taylor III (Artenna), loving brother, William Fortune (Cheryl), two grandsons who she adored, John R. Davis III (Trey) and Taylor Davis; one niece (Wanda Davis), and several great nieces and nephews as well as several cousins, including beloved William "Dickey" Rollins (Irma).

A visitation will be held at noon with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9,2024 at Saint Stephens Baptist Church, 29346 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Richmond SPCA, 2519 Hermitage Road, Richmond, Virginia 23220.
