Dora T. Johnson, 83, of Newtown, VA., entered into eternal rest on June 10, 2009, at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Rachel Redd Broaddus and Willie Broaddus. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Arcurtis Monroe, Elizabeth Baylor, Thelma Black and Arnetha Golden.
Dora was educated in the public schools of Caroline County and graduated from Union High School in 1944.
Dora accepted Christ at an early age. She made Jesus Christ her first choice and later in life supported the Missionary Ministry and the Pastor's Aide Ministry at Shiloh Baptist Church.
On February 15, 1946, she was united in holy matrimony to George Johnson and this union was blessed with one son, Elvin D. Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and dedicated son, Elvin D. Johnson and his fiance, Evelyn Byrd of Bowling Green, a granddaughter, LaContas Mechelle Johnson of Newtown; a niece, Joan Johnson; two nephews, Wayne Baylor and Lavelle Golden; two sisters-in-law, Anna Lovelace and Inda Pulliam; two brothers-in-law, Thurman Johnson and John Golden; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, June 15 from noon to 8 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home and one hour before service at the church on Tuesday.
The funeral service will be at noon Tuesday, June 16, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Bowling Green, VA., with Rev. S. W. Kendell delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Mt. Lawn Cemetery, Woodford, VA.
