Celebration of Life
On Sunday, July 21, 2013, Delores Valerie Bailey departed this earthly life at her home in Sparta, VA.
Delores was born on August 10, 1933 to the late Garfield and Susie Jones. She was born in Virginia, but later moved to Washington, DC. She was educated in the public schools of the District of Columbia. Delores graduated from Dunbar High School in 1951. After High School, she attended Martha Washington School of Nursing in Washington, DC. Later that same year, she would marry Thomas Yates and from that union one daughter was born, Telita.
Delores also worked for the Federal Government (Navy Annex) for many years before moving back to Virginia. She remarried again to the late Samuel Walter Bailey. To this union seven children were born (Rodney, Terrance, Darryl, Vita, Gilbert, Dana and Lisa).
She was a loving mother and will be missed by everyone she touched. She loved to travel, visit with family, listen to music, and loved dancing. Her smile and laughter will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-Gilbert Bailey, her brother-Hubbert, and her sister-Romaine. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Telita Estes (Ellis) of Washington, DC; Vita Simmons of Ashland, VA; Lisa Burton (Stan) of Dale City, VA; four sons, Rodney (Deborah) of Fredericksburg; Terrance (Ruby) of Ruther Glen; Darryl (Zonia) of Georgia; Dana of Sparta; one sister Shirley Alfred of St. Petersburg, Florida; two brothers Gilbert Jones (Murlene) of Biloxi, Mississippi and Toussaint Jones of Washington, DC; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. She also leaves a cousin and dear friend Gloria Samuels, a very devoted and longtime family friend, Marilyn Bailey.
