Obituary

Marion Elizabeth Monroe Golden entered eternal rest on Wednesday August 27, 2014. She was born to the late Booker T. Washington and the late Violet Washington on May 7, 1940.

Marion accepted Christ at an early age and was a long standing member of Saint John Baptist Church, Woodford, Virginia, where she served as a Deaconess, Missionary, Usher and member of the Spiritualetts.

Marion married the late James Ernest Monroe, on August 28, 1954 and to this union nine children were born; James Ernest Monroe Jr, Jamila (Marilyn) Adamu (Daoud}, Calvin Lee Monroe, Joyce Lorraine Monroe, Larry Morgan Monroe (Gwenette), Mary Leacer Beasley (Lewis), Keith Andrew Monroe, Carol Violet Walker and the late Carl Vincent Monroe.

Marion married Andre' Michel Golden on August 25, 2007.

Marion leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 7 years, Andre Golden; four sons, James E. Jr., Calvin L., Larry M. (Gwenette), and Keith A. Monroe; four daughters, Jamila "Marilyn" Adamu (Daoud), Joyce L. Monroe, Mary L. Beasley (Lewis) and Carol Violet Walker; two step daughters, Andrea Wimbush (Anthony) and Ashley N. Golden; 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren three sisters, Lillian "Peaches" Pollard, Ladysmith, VA; Marlene Woods, Philadelphia, PA; Viola Childs, Woodford, VA; two sisters in-law; Linda Logan of Temple Hills, Maryland and Tina Chubbs of Clinton, Maryland; a devoted friend, Isabelle Wright (Mom Boots) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held Friday, August 29, from 12 Noon to 8 PM at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc., 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 and one hour before the service on Saturday.

A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m.on Saturday, August 30, at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, VA 22580 with Rev. Dr. W. G. Berryman, Pastor, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
