Cynthia Jean Samuel, 71 of Ruther Glen, Virginia quietly departed this life on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Elizabeth Adam Crump Health and Rehabilitation Center in Glen Allen, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Linwood Mitchell, Sr. and Loisteen Banks Mitchell. She was born April 22, 1947 in Norfolk, Virginia.

She graduated from James Solomon Russell High School in 1969 and later graduated from St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia. Cynthia was employed by the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C.  and retired after 30 years of service.   She was united in holy matrimony to James Samuel in August of 2004

Cynthia was a frequent attendee of Mount Salem Baptist Church in Ruther Glen, Virginia. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasantly personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was  beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her sister Carol M. Mitchell.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her husband, James Samuel; her son, Rashid Abdul Ali  also known as Butch; siblings, Lois Ann Mitchell-Hargrove and Joseph L. Mitchell; god daughter and great niece Laquita Michelle Ames Reddick and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held  at 2:00 p.m. on  Friday, October 5, 2018 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Family is requesting donations for the funeral expenses of Cynthia Jean Samuel be made directly to C. W. Edwards Funeral Home.
