Cynthia Tallaiferro (Tolliver) Gentry was born on July 19, 1926, to the late Percy and Laura Taylor Tallaiferro (Tolliver) of Penola, Virginia.
Cynthia, the youngest of ten children, departed this life on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
Cynthia joined the church at an early age. She served as an usher and continued to faithfully support her church. Her favorite scripture was "Psalms 23." She attended public school in Penola, Virginia. In her early years of life, she was employed in various domestic jobs.
She was known as a kind, caring and gentle person. She was a devoted caregiver to her siblings in their twilight years. She was affectionately known as "Grandma, CM, and Cynthia Mae." Cynthia had a special love for animals. She took care of any animals that were in need including dogs, cats, birds and even a pet deer.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her son, Prentiss Alonzo Wingfield. She is survived by her five children, Deloris Ann Pass, Dean Russell Wingfield, Roscoe Dwight Wingfield (Laura), Debra Marie Harris (Marvin), and a devoted daughter and son-in-law Dulaney Allen (Robert) with whom she resided; twelve grandchildren, (one loving granddaughter as her "Personal Caregiver, Jada" and her oldest grandson, Gregory, in whom she always looked for to walk in the door at any given time), nine great grandchildren and two great great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Bernice Wingfield and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, from noon to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 3, at Mt. Salem Baptist Church, 16170 Moore's Mill Road, Ruther Glen, Virginia 22546. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
