Obituary

Curtis Hugh Price was born October 5, 1939 in Washington, D.C. to late Curtis Hughes Price and Catherine Coleman Cole. He was raised by his mother, Catherine, and his father, the late David A. Cole, Sr. in Beaverdam, VA. Curtis departed this life on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA.

Curtis gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Beaverdam, VA and later joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ruther Glen, VA, where he was honored as a "Father of the Church."

He was educated in the Spotsylvania County school system and graduated from John J. Wright School. While attending school, he also drove the public school bus at the early age of 16. After graduating high school, he obtained a job at F.W. Woolworth on Caroline Street located in Downtown Fredericksburg, VA. Later, Curtis took his love for baking to the bakery within the FBI Academy located in Quantico, VA. He also worked at Wonder Bread as a baker in Washington, D.C. Curtis followed in his father's footsteps and worked at Sylvania Plant in Fredericksburg, VA as a machine operator.

On December 12, 1964, Curtis married the love of his life, Irish B. Price. From this union, they were blessed with three children: Tonya Price, Tiniki P. Jackson, and Guan J. Price.

Having a love for entrepreneurship, in 1972, Curtis established his own business, C.H.P. Drywall Contractors in Spotsylvania, VA. He owned and operated his business from 1972 to 2004. Curtis was frequently recommended for home improvement opportunities by employees and managers of numerous construction retail businesses and widely known in the community and surrounding counties for his excellent workmanship.

He will be remembered for his character, leadership, and calm demeanor. In his younger years, Curtis enjoyed playing softball, hunting, fishing, playing cards and horseshoes. Curtis was a member of The Star Pickup Club and brother of Masonic Lodge #125 (Prince Hall) located in Bowling Green, VA.

Curtis was proceeded in death by his parents Curtis H. Price, David A. Cole, Sr. and Catherine Cole; his father-in-law, Charles Gray; mother-in-law, Mary E. Gray-Yarborough; his younger brother, William A. Cole, sister, Elaine C. Cole; brothers-in-law, Charles J. Gray, William A. Gray, Wayne R. Gray, James Latney, Edward Herndon and Ronald Fountain; sisters-in-law, Elaine Wright, Janice Cole, and Shirley A. Fountain.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irish B. Price of Spotsylvania, VA; his children, Dr. Barbara Johnson of Farmville, VA, Tonya Price of Spotsylvania, VA, Tiniki P. Jackson (Charles) of Woodford, VA, and Guan J. Price (Samantha) of Spotsylvania, VA; his loving grandchildren, Brittany Jackson, Brandi Williams (Joshua), Samira Price, Guan J. Price II, and Kyra Price; his brothers Chester L. Cole (Yvonne) of Suitland, MD and David A. Cole, Jr. of Temple Hills, MD; sisters-in-law, Virginia Latney of Bowling Green, VA, Joyce L. Herndon of Woodford, VA, Frances J. Robinson of Woodford, VA, Louise Gray of Woodford, VA, Mimi Gray of Woodford, VA, and Mary Gray of Bowling Green, VA. Curtis leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Caroline County Community Services Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, VA 22514 with a viewing from 1:00-2:00 p.m. The interment and repast will take place at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 18562 Countyline Church Road, Ruther Glen, VA 22546.
