Obituary

Clinton Roosevelt Roots, 91 of King William, Virginia departed this life on Monday, February 6, 2017 at the home of his niece, Stacy, and her husband, Barry, after a brief battle that he fought courageously. Deacon Roots was born January 28, 1926 in Caroline County, Virginia to the late Andrew Carter and Evelyn (Every) Roots.

Deacon Roots was educated in the Caroline County Public School System. He joined First Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sparta, Virginia in 1936. He moved to King William County in 1941 and joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Deacon Roots was a World War II veteran and after being honorably discharged in 1948, he moved to Washington, D.C. and worked in construction for seventeen years while there. In 1950 he married the late Delores Miles and from this union a daughter, Deborah Renee Armstrong (now deceased) was born.

In 1965, he moved back to King William County and continued working in construction until he retired in 1988. Even after retiring, Deacon Roots continued to do construction, electrical, plumbing, and roofing work in King William and surrounding counties.

Upon his return from Washington, D. C. Deacon Roots returned to active membership at Mt. Sinai. He served in the Usher Ministry and on Board of Trustees. He was ordained as a Deacon on October 2, 1994. He cut grass, bushes and trees, fixed the lights in the vestibule, installed additions in the bathrooms, laid concrete fro the walkway, helped build the pavilion, and the list could go on. When you asked him what he called himself, he would say
"an all-around handyman". Deacon Roots continued to serve as an active member of Mt. Sinai until his illness.

Deacon Roots loved God and was a devoted, loving family man who embraced his family and was one person on whom the whole family could depend. He lived his life accordingly and to its fullest; he will be missed dearly. We have all been blessed to have had him in our lives!

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted "Team Roosie" niece, Stacey and her husband, Barry; brother, James Archie Roots; niece, Sheila Trimmer (Calvin; three grandchildren: U. S. Navy Commander Henry P. Pierce, IV (Christine), Dena Stephenson (Demonic), and Niven Armstrong; six great grandchildren; Christian, Deyvn, Henry V, Demoni, Annaliese, and Dayvion; his "girl" Ellen Washington and her family, Theresa Upshaw, William H. Washington (Grace), Margie Young (Walker), Antione Washington (Kathi), and their children and grandchildren; many devoted friends, among them, William (Billy) Carter, Russell Watson, Deacon Mary B.
