Obituary

Clara Lorraine Hudson daughter of the late Oliver Wendell Latney and Gertrude Roye Latney was born on December 23,1931, in Caroline County, Virginia. Clara affectionately call "Big Mama" departed this life on Saturday, May 12, 2018. On May 31, 1952, she married the love of her life Raymond Hudson, Sr. who preceded her in death along with three brothers, James Latney, Weldon Latney and Clinton Latney;  grandson, Jerome Ray Hudson.

Clara's spiritual development began at Shiloh Baptist Church. At nine years old Rev. A.P. Young baptized her and she remained a loyal member until her death. Her ministries included a spiritual ambassador usher for over fifty years and junior usher sponsor, flower club, trustees aid, secretary of girls auxiliary, birthday club, and hospitality club. She was educated in the Caroline County Public Schools and graduated from Union High School in 1949 and later attended Virginia State College.

Clara worked as a substitute teacher for Caroline County Public Schools for ten years. Clara's love and interest in children and healthcare set her on a career as a nursing assistant. Those who remember her a a substitute teacher often remarked about her superior handling of her children and her nurturing spirit that benefited the children and staff. In 1988, she completed the requirements for nursing assistant and received dual diplomas for nursing assistant and child care. She had a gift and love for helping others in need and took joy in making others feel loved through the care she provided. For many years she provided healthcare services in Caroline and surrounding counties to those in need.


She leaves to cherish fond memories her loving and devoted children; Keith Hudson (Shahay) of Stafford, Virginia, Donna Holmes (Robert) of Bowling Green, Virginia, Carl Hudson (Crystal, deceased, May, 12, 2018) of Atlanta, Georgia, Raymond Hudson (Cynthia) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ricky Hudson(Sanja) of Bowling Green, Virginia and Vera Hooker (Dean) of Stafford, Virginia; sixteen grandchildren, Keith Hudson, Leroy Hudson (Shaunte), Shameta Boggs (Kevin), Monica Jackson (Tommy), Latoya Deadwyler( Brock), Carl Hudson, Jr.,Mesha Kimble, Letitia Donnell (Brendon), Lorrell Livingston, Shakira Pollard (Brooks), Teomika Hudson. Natkia Hudson, Amber hooker, Reion Hooker, Ilona Edwards ( Sterling), and Aleah Hudson; twenty nine great grandchildren; one great- great grandchild; one brother, Oliver Latney (Maryann) of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Annie Davis of Bowling Green, Virginia and Gertrude Latney of Stafford, Virginia; six sister-in-laws, Pearl Belcher, Geneva Lewis, Edna Mae Roye, Jane Hudson, Shirley Latney, Virginia Latney; two borther-in-laws, Nathaniel Roye and Charles Hudson; a host of nieces, nephews and a mulitude of other family and friends. Clara loved life, her family, and a special bond with her "road dogg", Pearl Belcher, Darlene Williams and Shirley Twiggs. Clara was a woman of great character and had a dignifying demanor about her. She said what she meant and meant what she said .

A  Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Caroline Community Services Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, Virgina. Interment will be private.
